The weather may have been cold, but some lucky children had the opportunity to warm up with a good book Tuesday at Oakland Heights Elementary School.
As part of the ''Reading is Fundamental" program, each student enjoyed hot chocolate and cookies while reading a book of his choice.
"Research says that children who want to read will read and children who love to read will read more," said literacy coach, Sandra Crawford. "So it is our job to make sure that we pique their interests with the types of books. That's why (with) "Reading is Fundamental", they get to choose any book they want to."
The Reading is Fundamental program distributes books three times a year to school children.
