According to Sen. Trent Lott, a bill being considered by the U.S. Senate could bring millions of dollars to Mississippi. Lott said the Omnibus Appropriations Measure is a consolidation of several annual appropriations bills, all of which have significant interests in this state.
The bill would fund the University of Southern Mississippi's new center for economic development, help establish a multicultural leadership program at the University of Mississippi and designate Mississippi's coastal counties as a national heritage area.
The bill would allot $2 million to the USM National Center for Excellence in Economic Development and $3 million for the Ole Miss Multicultural Leadership Program.
It would also earmark funds for improvements at various law enforcement agencies and for projects ranging from road construction to flood control.
