Two people were taken into custody early Monday morning, less than 24 hours after 71-year-old L.S. Vowell was found dead in a chicken house he co-owned with his son, Michael.
Vowell's body was discovered Sunday morning in the Four Corners community, where Winston County meets Neshoba, Leake and Attalla counties, just off Highway 25.
A check of the jail docket at the Winston/Choctaw County Regional Correctional Facility revealed that J.C. Higginbotham, 27, and 35-year-old James Allen Higginbotham were being held for investigation and questioning.
The pair was brought in by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, which has been handling the case.
Creeks along Highway 395 in Winston County were searched Monday and Tuesday. The results of the searches are unknown at this time. It was believed that the MBI, along with a dive team from the Columbus Fire Department, were looking for a gun that may have been used in the killing.
Michael Vowell said he believes his father was shot twice, once in the shoulder and possibly in the head. Results of the autopsy have not been available.
