The United Way of East Mississippi announced Monday it has reached its goal for the 2004-2005 campaign.
In fact, fundraising chairman Bubba Hampton said the total should actually go slightly over the $700,000 mark.
Sixteen agencies receive a portion of their budgets from the United Way.
"This is wonderful. It allows us to capture some of our prior years' deficits, when we didn't make the goal, and it also allows us to properly match income with the year that we're operating in," said campaign chairman Bubba Hampton. "And this is just an example of how wonderful it is to live in Meridian, Lauderdale County, east Mississippi. The people of this area have just opened up their hearts to make this possible. We thank them so much."
Hampton said the agency is already looking ahead to the needs that will be met through the 2005-2006 campaign.
