Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center announced Wednesday that its pharmacy is very close to installing the Omnicell Medguard system.
Medguard uses barcode scanning technology to help insure the highest level of patient safety.
"If we can have a system that can almost guarantee to be extremely difficult to have any of these errors take place, where drugs are dispensed at the wrong time or the wrong kinds or the wrong shape, it will make an impact," said Randy Lipps, president of Omnicell.
Since work began on the system, the hospital says it has been able to cut staff costs by 25 percent in the last three years.
