The National Shooting Sports Foundation is once again making free gun locks available as part of its "Project Childsafe."
The organization will distribute about 185,000 free locks to law enforcement throughout Mississippi. Gun owners are encouraged to pick one up at your local law enforcement agency.
"Shotguns and rifles, they should be locked up," said Frank R. Walker of Project Childsafe, "either in a gun safe, or if you cannot afford a gun safe, the locks are free, paid for by a grant from the Department of Justice."
The gun locks also include a safety booklet on how to secure different types of firearms, plus other steps gun owners can take to make their homes safer for children.
