The ride from Philadelphia to the Pearl River Resort could be getting a little shorter. City officials are looking to annex about three miles of land between the current city borders on Highway 16 west to the border of the Reservation at the Choctaw Town Center.
Most of the land involved is undeveloped commercial property that city officials say will soon have businesses on it, like much of the area already is. There are only about a dozen homes in the proposed area.
Mayor Rayburn Waddell said it could help increase the city tax base. If the annexation goes through, it would be the second time in a decade the city has done so. Six years ago, the city annexed much of the Williamsville area.
Waddell says city officials have already hired a firm to develop a map with the proposed annex area. It will probably take about two years for the annexation to be complete, but Waddell said he hopes it will go smoothly enough that it might be quicker than that.
