Meridian High School student, A.J. Brown, was voted the Meridian-Lauderdale County Boys and Girls Club's Youth of the Year for 2004.
At the annual statewide meeting in Biloxi this weekend, Brown came in as first runner-up for Mississippi’s Youth of the Year.
"When I was young, the Boys and Girls Club was there for me and I see that every child needs to be treated as a child and should have fun things to do," said Brown.
Brown is the son of Patricia and Anthony Brown, Sr., of Meridian.
The state Boys and Girls Club also honored longtime local board member, Betty Lou Jones with its "care" award, "Children Are Reasons for Excellence".
Meridian-Lauderdale County's Melanie Mitchell was named state board member of the year.
