The Mississippi Department of Employment Security released job numbers for December on Thursday. It was the same in November and 6.5 percent in October. A year ago, the unemployment rate was 5.1 percent.
The national adjusted rate was 5.4 percent in December, compared to 5.2 percent in November.
State officials say the retail trade was the only sector showing an increase in jobs in December. Farm jobs were down, mostly in the Delta.
Sharkey County had the highest unemployment rate at 19.5 percent. Issaquena County had the second-highest at 18 percent. Twenty-two counties posted double-digit rates.
Lamar County had the lowest unemployment rate at 2.5 percent. Rankin County came in at 2.9 percent.
