The 2004 United Way of East Mississippi campaign is now less than two percent away from reaching its goal of $700,000.
Executive director Thad Quarles announced Thursday that the benchmark was reached, thanks to employees with the City of Meridian increasing their pledges by over 200 percent from the previous year.
The current total now stands at $692,000. The campaign ends Feb. 8.
