The Birmingham City Council will vote March 29 on an ordinance banning smoking in restaurants and many public places, not including bars and lounges.
Under the proposed measure, smoking will not be allowed in any establishment that primarily serves food.
It would prohibit smoking in places such as museums, banks and shopping malls.
Exceptions would be made for private residences, designated hotel rooms, tobacco stores, and business offices.
