Retired Cong. G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery will be honored in his hometown by having one of its downtown streets named for him.
A ceremony is set for Apr. 4 at 4:00 p.m. on Front Street at 21st Avenue, also known as Constitution Avenue, to unveil the first sign.
The designation of "Sonny Montgomery Street" was made last fall by the City Council.
New signs marking the designation will be placed all along Front Street from 26th Avenue to Front Street extension.
The new signs will be in addition to the present names and numbers on the street. Mailing and street addresses will not change.
Cong. Montgomery served in the House of Representatives from 1967 to 1997. His distinguished career was marked by his dedication and service to the nation's military, with the Montgomery G.I. bill being one of the most important legacies he authored.
