Two local businesses were robbed at gunpoint over the Easter weekend. An arrest has been made in one. The other remains under investigation.

MPD officials say a black male entered the Dixie Gas Station on B. Street around 2:00 p.m. Easter Sunday, brandished a handgun then robbed the store of its cash before fleeing on foot.

"This morning between 7:30 - 8:00, we arrested a Jarvis Clompton, charged him with that robbery," said Lt. Dean Harper. "His bond has been set at $50,000."

Meridian police say the first of the two armed robberies occurred at another local business around 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

"Meridian police responded to an armed robbery call at Meridian Tobacco and Beverage on 8th Street and 45th Avenue. A clerk advised that a black male came into the store armed with a handgun and robbed the store before fleeing on foot," said Harper.

The suspect is described as a black male, about 5 feet 7 inches tall, medium build with a dark complexion.

Anyone with information about the robbery at Meridian Tobacco and Beverage is encouraged to contact their local law enforcement agency or Crimestoppers at 601-485-1860.
