Meridian's Mainstreet program Friday hosted visitors from Hattiesburg. The group started its tour of Meridian with an information session at union station. Downtown Meridian has received over $60 million in public-private investment since 1996.
"You have a train depot which is the nucleus for all the economic development," said Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny Dupree. "When you look around and see all the dilapidated buildings that used to be here are not here anymore. people have determined that they want to put money into downtown and they can see the progress. When you have public money going into a project then private money will follow."
Ten organizations from the Hattiesburg area were represented.
