A new industry is up and running in Clarke County. Genesis Corporation's operation was officially announced by a host of community leaders Tuesday morning at the company's new home, the old Sunbeam-Oster plant location on Highway 45 in Clarke County. The facility had not been in use since A&B Electric closed in 2000.
"We're certainly proud to have them here in the county," said supervisor Paul Mosley. "Things are looking up, down in Shubuta. We've been working on this project for about five to eight years. It has been a long time coming, but it's worth the wait."
Genesis manufactures lamp shades and lists retail giant Wal-Mart as one of its major accounts. The company also has operations in Alabama and China.
Genesis vice president and co-owner, Stewart Foley, says he and partner George Stewart had been employed at the Sunbeam facility almost twenty years ago. He says the impression the area and the people made upon him all those years ago, played a big part in the decision to locate in Shubuta.
