Lt. Roger Barajas of Meridian Naval Air Station was presented the Bronze Star Wednesday for exceptional meritorious service in Iraq.
With a crew of less than a dozen soldiers, Barajas was able to perform the mission of an entire forward-support battalion.
His leadership was said to have been a pivotal factor in developing and sustaining a capable and credible Iraqi security force.
"It's pretty rare you see these on a Navy guy, just simply because they're given in combat theater. I don't know that I'm the only surface warfare lieutenant who has gotten one in the Navy, but I wouldn't be surprised that I am," said Lt. Barracks.
The Bronze Star is the fourth highest award for bravery, heroism or meritorious service in the Armed Forces.
