A member of the Philadelphia Coalition that called for justice in the slayings of James Chaney, Michael Schwerner and Andrew Goodman over a year ago, was the guest speaker at Monday's meeting of the Meridian Rotary Club.
Jim Prince is also editor and publisher of the Neshoba Democrat. He said there are good things happening in Philadelphia, and some of it is because of open dialogue about the past.
"There has been a lot of interest in coming to Mississippi since the conclusion of the trial and I think in east central Mississippi we have a lot of opportunity to embrace that past and acknowledge it, and to educate people about our past and about what we're doing now," said Prince. "There are so many good things we do that are going on and we have good relations, and that is something we can hold on up."
Prince said there is hard work ahead for Philadelphia in the area of economic growth, but he said the area has the opportunity and the infrastructure to make things happen.
