The city of Meridian recently installed two new stop signs at the intersection of 20th Street and 41st Avenue, but it seems a few motorists have failed to notice them as they cruise on through.
"It has been a few years since the stop signs were on 20th Street, making traffic stop going east and west," said MPD Lt. Dean Harper. "Since this stop sign has been put up here, they have also put up warning signs about a block away from either one. However, as you can see behind me, people still don't know about the stop signs."
Police want us to remind you that excuses such as, "I didn't know it was there" or "when did they put that up?" are not valid. Harper said it is the driver's responsibility to watch for traffic signs.
"Now even though the stop signs have been put up, if someone runs the stop sign and didn't know, it’s their fault. It is the driver's responsibility to know all the local traffic signs and where they are," said Harper.
For those of you who travel down 20th Street, make sure you stop on your own. Don't make the police have to do it for you.
