Meridian's mayor was hospitalized after a fall on Friday night, but the good news is Mayor John Robert Smith was released from Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center Monday afternoon.
Smith suffered a broken rib and punctured lung on Friday night. A tube was inserted Sunday to reinflate his lung and it has been functioning normally since then.
According to a city spokesperson, doctors said the mayor should make a full recovery and could resume light duties at City Hall later this week or early next week.
