Mississippi Speaker of the House Tim Ford says he won't seek re-election to the state legislature next year.
Citing the hostility of recent sessions, including the 83-day special session on tort reform, Ford said that he enjoys the legislative process less and less.
"It's a lot of activities that goes on and I think that what he felt like was through the trials and tribulations that he has been involved in that it was time to get some relief from the strain that goes with that particular office," said Rep. Charles Young of Meridian.
Ford, a Democrat from Baldwyn, has served six terms in the Mississippi House, with four terms as Speaker.
