Young people are standing up for other children through "Jeans for Justice" and "Walk for Justice" next week.
Students at Southeast Middle School have challenged other kids to sell stickers in support of crime victims. Then they're asked to wear them and participate in the Walk for Justice Apr. 16 in downtown Meridian.
The money will go to the East Mississippi Child Advocacy Center at Wesley House, 1520 8th Avenue in Meridian, phone 601-485-4736.
"They help with children that need forensic interviews," said Mary Ann Shook of Wesley House. "You know, if two adults buy a sticker, that's $10.00. "That could be gas for a child to come here for counseling that they need. It's to benefit the victims, the children."
"There is nothing as exciting as having children advocate for children," said Wesley House executive director, Ginger Stevens. "You know, nobody can relate to a child like another child. And with all of the children in our, we serve 13 counties, and with those kind of statistics it really does help those children and their families to know they're not alone."
April 13-19 is Victims Rights Week. Stickers are being sold for $1.00 to students and $5.00 to adults.
The Walk for Justice is set for 3:30 p.m. Apr. 16 at the Lauderdale County Courthouse. Anyone may participate. It will be followed by a prayer vigil at Central United Methodist Church.
