Alabama and Mississippi are working together to promote Meridian's site to Kia Motor Company.
Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, announced on Thursday that the Korean automaker is interested in locating its first North American car plant here.
State Sen. Terry Burton says having a Kia plant in the area would transform east Mississippi and west Alabama.
"If this takes place, there will be major cultural changes to this area, not just in Meridian, but in west Alabama and east Mississippi. If this takes place," emphasized Burton, who represents District 31.
Burton also says the legislature would likely give Kia incentives to entice the company to locate in Mississippi.
