Poplar Springs Elementary School in Meridian has been chosen to receive a grant as part of the whole arts initiative with the Mississippi Arts Commission. Friday was a time of celebration.
The $7,500 matching grant will allow the school to integrate arts into all aspects of its curriculum.
"We believe that the arts transcend gender; they transcend socio-economic status, where a child comes from, what he brings to school because we know that creative spirit exists within all children," said principal Linda Dulaney. "And we believe that by tapping into that, we will help our children become stronger learners, more self-assured and they will be able to express themselves in ways that they may not have been able to before."
The whole arts initiative is one of the top four programs in the nation for infusing arts in the curriculum.
