Law enforcement officers cover a lot of ground while on duty. They monitor traffic and are often called out to dangerous situations. Now the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department will know where the patrol cars are located at all times.
"It's a huge safety feature if they deputy is unable to communicate we know where that car is located," said Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun.
The system was purchased with federal grants and funds the department has seized. Currently 12 cars are equipped with the technology, but Calhoun says the plan is to install the system into the entire patrol fleet.
