Delta Airlines will be staying in Meridian for the foreseeable future, according to city officials.

Meridian announced Monday that the U.S. Department of Transportation had chosen Delta to provide air service for Meridian Regional Airport.

Delta announced several weeks ago that it could not continue providing service to Meridian without federal subsidies.

The federal government will give Delta about $700,000 in subsidies per year.
