WOKK radio in Meridian says someone has been using its name to try to scam its listeners.

The station has a promotional game called "The Name Game". Someone has been calling people, claiming to be acting on WOKK's behalf, and asking for social security numbers.

Program director, Sharkey Rupe, said the station does not need or want that information.

"The catch is they ask for your social security number. We don't ask for the social security numbers," said Rupe. "Something we just don't do."

So if someone calls asking for your social security number, don't give it out. Instead, call law enforcement in your community.
