Law enforcement agencies announced Thursday they will be taking part in the annual Click It or Ticket campaign, beginning Monday.

That means officers will be conducting road blocks, and having extra people on duty, looking for those who are not buckled up.

"In 2006, there were over 15,000 deaths during nighttime hours," said Capt. Rick McCary of the Meridian Police Dept. "Sixty-four percent of those people were not wearing seat belts. So it's very important that you wear your seat belt. It does keep you safe, regardless of what you might think."

Click It or Ticket will run May 19 through the Memorial Day holiday and wrap up June 1.

Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department, Mississippi Highway Patrol, Marion Police Department, and NAS Meridian security are also participating.

Professionals are offering free safety checks of child seats Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. are State Farm, 2803 Old North Hills Street, Meridian.

Officials want to replace those that are damaged, or have been recalled, and show how to properly use them.
