Six fallen servicemen were honored Saturday during the second annual Stonewall Memorial Day Celebration. A monument displaying the men was unveiled.
This monument is a lasting symbol of the fallen servicemen that had ties to the Stonewall Area. It is located at the Recreation Center in Stonewall between the baseball field and the highway. The monument depicts a rifle, boots and helmet cast in bronze. It represents the heroes who have fallen from World War Two until the present. Among the six, was fallen soldier Marine Corporal Dustin Lee. Lee was killed during an attack in Iraq last year.
"I'm just proud to just have been able to know a couple of these guys. My son was very patriotic. He loved the military and we're just proud that he was able to serve," said Jerome Lee, Dustin's Father.
Locals say the monument is not complete and the community will continue to collect donations and make it a symbol the men deserve.
