In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, homeowners throughout the ravaged areas have been desperately awaiting payoffs from their insurance carriers.
Countless homes have been destroyed by the storm. As of Oct. 18, $1.2 million had been paid out for more than 300,000 claims in the state of Mississippi alone.
State insurance commissioner George Dale is pleading with consumers to be patient.
Dale says he has been applying pressure to insurance companies to "pay more claims and pay them faster." He is asking consumers to be sure that have justified their claims as well.
