The Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk, to benefit the Alzheimer's Association, had been scheduled for last Saturday. It was canceled because of Hurricane Katrina.
Still, the benefit was a success. On Wednesday at West Lauderdale High School, the Health Occupations Student Association presented a check to the association.
Adviser Lee Ann Rhaly said volunteerism is vital for her students.
"Youth are our future for tomorrow and I feel like if we don't teach them volunteer service in the school systems, in our community, then who else will?" said Rhaly.
Citizens National Bank also presented a check. The fundraiser is expected to bring in between $4,000 and $5,000 for Alzheimer’s research and education.
