Reaction to Harriet Miers withdrawing her name for a seat on the U.S. Supreme Court has been mixed.
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, a Democrat, blames right-wing conservatives for attacking Miers.
Republican Trent Lott of Mississippi said Miers did not meet conservative ideology.
"He (President Bush) should have nominated a strict constructionist conservative, sure. That's what he is. That's what he ran as for president. If you elect me, that's what you'll get. I'm sure he'll do that," said Lott.
Miers' nomination divided the president's supporters, many of whom wanted a nominee with a clear record of opposition to abortion.
