The police chief in Philadelphia has resigned. David Edwards' resignation is effective Wednesday, Nov. 2.
Mayor Rayburn Waddell says a search will get under way after Edwards leaves.
Edwards was promoted to police chief on Feb. 6, 2002. He joined the police force on June 14, 1994, and worked his way up the ranks.
The board of alderman won't officially act on the resignation until it meets on Tuesday.
