Meridian police should soon have a new headquarters. The city on Thursday approved the purchase of land in downtown Meridian to build a new station.
That new station will be located at 8th Street and 23rd Avenue, across the street from City Hall and the new parking garage.
It's an L-shaped lot next to Meyer and Rosenbaum. The site was the choice of a survey of officers on the force.
"This will be closer to a parking garage. We'll be easier to find, going right down 8th Street, and the security of downtown. We'll keep the police station there because of all the development going on downtown. It's an ideal location," said Assistant Police Chief Keith McCary.
McCary says he hopes ground can be broken on the new station in 2006.
