Officials say the Mississippi Highway Patrol's district office in Meridian needs to be updated. They cite needing more room and ability to make technological upgrades.
A new building will be placed on a new site. The city of Meridian is willing to provide up to 20 acres near the interstate.
"This station has been here since 1959, so it's pretty well worn. We've just about got the good out of this station, so right now, we're in the process of looking for another location for this building," said Sgt. Ronnie Carter.
The state is considering locations in several counties of the district, including Lauderdale. The final decision on the location will likely be made after the first of the year.
