Meridian's Junior Auxiliary announced its humanitarian of the year Monday, and the honor went to someone who has been at the forefront of volunteer efforts this year.
The award went to Cheri Barry, the executive director of the American Red Cross Key Chapter.
JA president Kim McKelvey said the leadership of people like Barry makes good things happen.
"Cheri obviously, especially in the past few months, has given so much to our community. She has given tirelessly of her time and talent, efforts, especially with the disaster of Hurricane Jatrina," said JA President Kim McKelvey.
In addition to recognizing Barry's work, Meridian Junior Auxiliary also donated $1,000 to the Key Chapter of the American Red Cross.
