Sexual Predators Often Repeat Offenders

Officials say that if someone living in your community is on the sex offender list, rather than being afraid, you should be more observant.

"You need to think smartly and to work efficiently as far as a neighborhood is concerned," said Ginger Stevens of Wesley House, which offers services and counseling to victims of sexual abuse. "And team up and have a neighborhood watch. Make sure you know where your children are at all times."

Stevens recommends checking the sex offender registry often.

A recent case in Wayne County involves a man named Paul Manning Dixon who was arrested over the weekend and charged with two counts of the lustful touching of a child.

Dixon has two previous convictions on similar charges in Ruston, La., and in Lamar County, Miss. A Wayne County judge denied bond.

There are literally hundreds of registered sex offenders living in the WTOK viewing area. By our count, over 300 of them live in the counties immediately surrounding Meridian.

More than 100 of them live here in Lauderdale County. The next largest numbers live in Scott and Neshoba Counties.

If you'd like to know who the registered sex offenders living in your area are, you may find out on the Web.

Both Mississippi and Alabama have Web sites with offenders on them. You may visit:
