Two Jackson residents have pleaded guilty in a scheme to pocket refunds by filing false income tax returns with information stolen from former or current Mississippi inmates.
Federal authorities say that Nikki Thomas pleaded guilty to aggravated identity theft last week. S'ade Tyler pleaded guilty to wire fraud and conspiring to defraud the United States.
Several others are also charged in the scheme, which court records say netted about $40,000.
Officials say they and others used names and Social Security numbers stolen from the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility and other locations.
Sentencing is in August in U.S. District Court in Jackson.
