You may have heard some people say Weidmann's Restaurant in Meridian will close after the first of the year. We went to general manager and chef Willie McGehee to ask if that is true.
"Not true. We're very much going to be open," said McGehee. "We are going to take a small break after the Christmas holidays. We're going to close up the 24th, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and two days after we will reopen, business as usual on Wednesday."
That means Weidmann's will be open New Year's Eve and from Wednesday, Jan. 4 on. That's when the operating changes will take place.
"We are doing one thing that we will start in January, where from 5:30 to 6:30 in the evening, five days a week, Tuesday through Saturday, we will have two entrees for the price of one," said McGehee. "Come in with your spouse or significant other, buy one entree and get another for free."
Changes are also being made in the bar. McGehee calls them,
'Weidmann's on $10 per day.' He will offer 10 different food items for under $10 each.
But these are not the only changes. Expect to see many of the autographed pictures of celebrities from the old Weidmann's back on the walls.
"We have some of the old pictures ready to frame on the wall. I'm waiting for my frames to come back right now. Not only that, but we are having some new pictures, folks that are regular customers coming on the walls, too," McGehee said.
McGehee said he thinks all businesses are trying to strike a balance between the old and the new.
