The family of Johnny Gardner of Meridian, Miss., celebrated his homecoming this weekend after 14 months of deployment due to Operation Enduring Freedom.
Gardner was surrounded by his wife, Sissy, his five children and two grandchildren on Christmas Day.
It was a nice surprise for all, since Gardner only got the word within the last few days that he would be able to get a flight home.
Gardner is a member of the 150th Combat Engineer Battalion, which is part of the 155th Combat Brigade. Over 3,500 members of the unit have been serving in Iraq.
The mailboxes of his neighbors on Hickory Hills Circle displayed yellow ribbons to welcome him home.
