Attorney Offers Defense

Meridian attorney Dwayne Watts says a Florida judge treated him unfairly in signing a warrant on him for contempt of court.

Watts told Newscenter 11 he represented a military client in a Pensacola case, who was unable to make a court date last August because he was stationed elsewhere and had no transportation.

Watts said he informed the prosecutor his client could not make a scheduled trial date but apparently District Court was set to proceed with the trial.

A hearing is set for next Tuesday in Florida on Watts' contempt charge,
issued by the U.S. Magistrate for failure to appear.
