Recovering from Hurricane Katrina remains the top priority for Mississippi lawmakers over four months after the storm devastated the Gulf Coast.

Legislators have approved close to $4 billion for the relief and rebuilding effort.

Stricter building codes have been proposed, but it remains to be seen if the state legislature will step in on what has traditionally been a local issue.

Preparation in advance of another severe storm of this type is also on the table.
