Brian and Erica Smith didn't have big plans for New Years Eve. They were going to go out to eat and go back home to Quitman. Their unborn son, Aidan, had other plans. Around 5 o'clock Saturday night, Erica went into labor with her third child. Two hours and 18 minutes into 2006, Charles Aidan Smith was born. Aidan is 22 inches long and weighs 9 pounds.
"It's pretty amazing. It didn't even occur to us last night that he might be the first baby born for the new year," says mom Erica Smith. "So, it's pretty special."
The Smith's say that something else that makes this birth so special is that Aidan shares a birthday with Erica's late grandfather. He is the second Smith child to share a birthday with a relative. Their daughter, Blayre, was born on Brian's birthday. The couple says that Blayre is ready to assume the big sister role.
The Smith's were given a basket of baby items to celebrate Aidan being the first baby born in Meridian in 2006
