A high speed chase Saturday night involved both the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department and Meridian Police.
Around 7:30 p.m. Saturday evening a Lauderdale County Deputy encountered an unidentified driver traveling in the wrong direction on Old Hwy. 45. The driver fled and traveled towards Meridian at extremely high speeds. He lead deputies throughout East Meridian and was apprehended with the use of spike strips at 7th Ave. and 21st Street.
"The individual was taken into custody without incident. At this time we are investigating why it is that he ran from us. We don't have any further details," said Lauderdale County Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun.
The investigation is continuing. The driver is being charged with numerous traffic citations including driving with a suspended license and a DUI as well as felony possession of cocaine and felony eluding.
