Saturday after serving as House Majority Leader for more than three years Rep. Tom DeLay resigned.
The congressman has been under a hail storm of controversy lately. Last fall he was indicted on campaign finance charges. Mississippi Rep. Chip Pickering says DeLay's resignation will allow congress to move forward.
"The American people will know that we're not distracted and diverted by whatever investigations continue as relates to Congressman DeLay. We will focus for the country on the congressional agenda and what we can do to gain greater economic prosperity and national security. And focus on the matters that most greatly effect people's lives here at home," Rep. Chip Pickering, (R) Mississippi - District 3.
Congressman Pickering also said he felt DeLay's resignation is in the best interests of the Republican Party.
