Meridian's Rotary Club Monday hosted the 2005 Country Doctor of the Year.
Dr. Katrina Poe was selected for that honor by the company, Staff Care, of Irving, Texas.
The award goes to a physician who best exemplifies the spirit, skill, and dedication of America's rural medical professionals.
"The physician has to be from a rural area who services less than 125,000 in population. I'm a family physician in Kilmichael and I'm the only physician for the Kilmichael Clinic and the Kilmichael Hospital," said Dr. Poe.
The Kilmichael native returned home in 2001 after completing her medical training when the town was about to lose its only doctor to retirement. Her return kept the hospital from closing.
