Man Charged in Scam

Tommy L. Anderson was supposed to be helping a charity. Instead, Meridian Police say the 47-year-old was allegedly trying to make a profit off of Meals on Wheels.

Investigators say Anderson was caught Wednesday trying to take a check from an elderly woman after delivering a meal to her.

Upon looking at the woman's bank records, they discovered more than $250 in checks written to Anderson over the past six months.

Meridian detective Randy Jackson said his department plans to get to the bottom of the case, because there could be other victims.

Meals on Wheels is operated by the Multi-County Community Service Agency.

MCCSA executive director Callie Cole was out of town Thursday and unavailable for comment.

Anderson was working for Meals on Wheels as a community service requirement for receiving assistance from the Department of Human Services. Officials say he was not a volunteer.
