A request by the city of Meridian for 100 FEMA trailers to house hurricane victims has been denied.
Greg Hughes, who represents FEMA, revealed the decision during a taping of WTOK's "On The Tecord" this week.
"We don't believe that they're probably going to be needed because that approximately 100 people, over half of them have been contacted and are receiving other forms of assistance," Hughes said. "And we may be able to bypass the need for trailers if we can get people into rental housing."
City of Meridian officials later agreed the housing is no longer necessary.
Only 22 displaced persons are still living in Meridian's motels at government expense.
