A Meridian doctor is looking to help solve the housing shortage on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, due to Katrina. It may mean some new jobs here in Meridian.

Dr. Randy Nance has introduced pre-built modular homes to the coast that he says he hopes will help a lot of people find places to live.

The homes can be built much faster than traditional ones. Instead of six months to a year, they can be put together in four to six weeks.

"We saw up to 200 patients a day while we were here in the clinic. We immediately recognized the need for affordable housing," said Dr. Nance. "And that's how I got into this market."

The home manufacturers say they might soon be building a manufacturing plant in Meridian.
