Due to concerns about the weather, Saturday's Little Mardi Gras activities in Meridian are postponed until Saturday, Mar. 4. A downtown block party did go on as scheduled Friday night.
Meridian's abbreviated Mardi Gras celebration actually kicked off at noon Friday with a boost for charity.
The Little Mardi Gras parade through downtown Meridian is also a fundraiser for Love's Kitchen. In addition to being fun, volunteers collect canned goods from businesses along the way.
"We feed five days a week, at least 600 to 700 plates a day. The need for food never ends and the need and number of the people that need our help is continuing to grow," said Ruth Irwin, executive director of Love's Kitchen.
Irwin thanked all the businesses who share in this way. Love's Kitchen is always in need of food and volunteers. It's located next to St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 18th Avenue and 19th Street.
