Downtown Meridian could soon be getting some new traffic patterns.
At his regular news conference, Mayor John Robert Smith said some of the major thoroughfares through downtown that have been one-way for years will likely soon be two-way.
The changes are being made to accommodate the MSU Riley Performing Arts Center.
"Mississippi State just requested that last week," said Smith. "Of course, we have to design, have designed, have to implement the paving and the sidewalks around the opera house. But we can't do any of that until the large equipment gets off the sidewalks and out of the streets there."
A couple of other streets in downtown will be extended. The mayor says the changes will begin being implemented in about six months.
